The boys did some Mutton Bustin' (riding sheep) Luigi was a little stiff-backed (read--scared to death) but he held on tight for the ride of his life!! Mario held on as tight as he could but ended up getting thrown off the sheep. He lost a shoe in the process and was a little shaken. A rodeo clown helped him up, gave him his shoe and a couple pieces of candy. He later told Papa the story and added, "It wasn't a REAL clown though. Just somebody dressed up like a clown". TOO FUNNY!! Let's hope he never meets a REAL clown! Luigi's take on the experience?---"Mom! Can I do that again???!!!" Mario's take--"Uh, mom, I don't want to do that again, okay?"
In addition to the mutton bustin' they got to chase a greased pig (along with about 50 other peers). They didn't catch him, but I think they each got a little grease on their hands. There was also an amazing petting zoo with chickens, chicks, sheep, goat kids, baby cows, and puppies. Even Daddy got in on the fun and hypnotized a chicken for the entertainment of a few kids who kept asking, "Is it dead?" hahahaha! The boys also got to ride ponies (twice). It was a full day, topped off with some great BBQ.

We also made a trip to the famous Phoenix Zoo while we were there. They LOVED it!! We stopped and had frozen yogurt beforehand.
We've been keeping busy with parks, bikes, trips to the 'big ditch', sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, movies, computer games, and of course, video games. They had me tie kitchen towels (the flour sack towels) around their necks like capes. They were enchanted by how their super capes fluttered behind them as they rode their bikes. Boys are on track break and we've got some other adventures planned. We've also managed to strengthen our immune systems as well with a little visit from a stomach bug that we've passed around.
The boys came downstairs yesterday in matching shirts and Mario said, "Mom, we're kinda like twins because we wearing the same shirt and our eyeballs are the same". Uh, NEWSFLASH! You ARE twins!!
Baby girl is learning more words everyday. She can now recognize the letter E. Thank you Sesame Street!! She loves 'MoMo' = Elmo. And now she's started saying 'Abby'. She likes her too. Still lovin' her some cows, and she frequently asks for a bow for her hair. Sweet baby.

17 Months Old (well almost 18 months)

This baby girl is SO SMART!! I had them help me with the wrench to take off the training wheels on their bikes. Luigi went first. I was running around holding the handle bars & seat. Wobbly-wobbly! My first thought was, "we are not ready for this". But I realized that it was ME. I had to let go. I was SO SCARED! My baby! What if he gets hurt? I had more fear than he did. But I did it. I let go. And this is what I wrote that night--"Remember that feeling when you let go of the boys today and let them ride away on that two-wheeled bike. Remember how deeply you connected with that moment. Remember how you knew it was much deeper than teaching your boys to ride a bike. Remember your joy in them. Remember how you jumped up and down and cheered them on! All this--because you were BRAVE enough TO LET GO!"
It really was one of the top moments of my life. I was jumping and yelling and cheering--Yahoo! That's my boy! Go! Go! Go! Pedal! Pedal! Pedal! I was crying and SO HAPPY. But I remember vividly that very moment I had to decide to let go. I am so happy I did!

I am Currently....

...happy she's ACTUALLY updating her blog with SOMETHING!!!
...waiting for bedtime :)
...sick and tired of criticizing herself. The next morning we boarded a plane (just the kids & I) to Michigan.
We had a GREAT time camping with Papa and Sylvia and Uncle Cass in northern Michigan. We actually stayed in cabins which worked out great. The boys each slept on a top bunk and there was even enough room for baby girl to sleep in her portable crib. The campground itself had lots of activities including beach access to Lake Huron, a heated pool, free putt-putt golf, and a nightly old fashioned firetruck that made rounds in the campground. They boys rode on it a couple of times and got to wear a fireman hat.
We went to the UP (upper peninsula) of Michigan one of the days. Across the Mackinac (pronounced MACKINAW) bridge and a little west on the coast--lovely time at the beach on Lake Michigan. We also made a trip by ferry to Mackinac Island. A very quaint, car-free, island where every one makes their rounds on bike, foot, or horse and buggy. We visited the Butterfly house and rented a horse and buggy for our own tour of the island. They gave us the biggest horse they had--BUD. A 2000 lb Clydesdale that stood about 7 feet tall. Huge. Bud was great. He didn't like to rush, as he too was enjoying the scenery up the coast of the island. When we got to the halfway point, most everyone dismounted for a break at the local snack bar. We were instructed to move the horse and buggy around to the field so as not to block the road. I was still in the buggy with baby girl and my brother drove the buggy around to the field. Mario, Luigi, Papa, and Sylvia had all gotten off. Well, right at that moment, another buggy came by. Bud did NOT like being passed, let alone by Pearl. (we later found out her name from the livery) Bud took off. With more than half of his load gone, he trotted as fast as he could up the hill after Pearl. Picture this--Mama & baby in the buggy, my brother trying to pull the reins to stop a 2000 lb horse, and my boys and their Papa running up the hill behind us yelling Stop! Stop!! Yeah, didn't happen. Bud had his own agenda and would slow for us, but then bray loudly and take off again after Pearl. He would not let her out of his sight. This part of the tour was a wooded area and every time she'd go around a corner, he would trot until she was within his sight again. We tried to stop him about 3 or 4 times at first and after the 4th time he got really mad and ran the fastest he had thus far. I was worried he was going to run the buggy into a tree to try to shake us or something. It was pretty scary. After that, I just said let him go, he knows the way back to the stables. We talked to my dad via cell phone and told him to ask someone at the snack bar to call the livery and have someone come pick them up. Everything turned out just fine, but let me just remind everyone that there are no seatbelts in buggies. I was nervous. My brother and I nick-named Bud "Seabuscuit". The boys had a great time riding back to the livery on a 'hay ride' that had no hay. They didn't seem to mind all of the excitement, they washed away their fears with free ice cream from the snack bar. By the time our joy ride was over, we had just enough time to grab some dinner on the island and catch the last ferry back to the mainland.
After our camping trip we stayed at Papa's for a few more days. Uncle Cass taught the boys how to fish and they had much success. We also had a campfire at Papa's house (yes, he has a permit for that) and caught fireflies. We also had some great time visiting Mimi in Michigan. Raiding her candy stash, a 3 HOUR trip to Chuck E. Cheese, and of course, bowling. FUN FUN adventures for our family. Too bad daddy had to finish up teaching his summer course and attend to some church responsibilities here at home.

Lilsusha Running....or not.

I don't know if I've ever explained the name of this blog. Back in the day, when message boards were all the rage online, it was necessary on one board or another to make up a screen name. I really don't know what my thought process was, so here is an attempt to explain it. At the time, a friend had recently gotten married and had teased that the theme for the food was going to be everything 'Lil'--i.e. Lil Debbie snack cakes, Lil Smokies, etc. I thought that was pretty funny. Then 'susha' well, I don't know except that it's close to 'sushi' which I have never eaten. So 'lilsusha' was born.
When I found out I was pregnant, I thought it was a great time to start a blog. The intent was that this blog was to serve mainly for documenting my running throughout my pregnancy--my return to running postpartum and my eventual achievement of my life goal of running a marathon.
WELL, I have made somewhat of a return to running. As per previous posts, I was scheduled to run the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon on July 18th and the St. George full marathon on October 3rd. It didn't and it ain't happenin'. I've had a few hiccups physically and mentally, I'm just not 'there' right now. Yes, the 100+ temperatures have had their part in all of this. I AM a marathoner, I WILL run my marathon. But this one isn't it.
Running is my therapy. I'm somewhat of a 'purist' with running--no headphones, no music. Just me. It is my time to work through situations and emotions inside. I love when I find the 'flow' on a run. When all I hear is my own rhythm of breathing--everything else is still and I don't even know I'm running.
So, the fact that I haven't ran in awhile, thus have not had any 'therapy', has taken it's toll on my emotions. I'm quicker to temper--just frustrated and tired most days. I WANT to run, but again the 100+ degree weather has had a part in my return, or rather my delay in returning. I will keep everyone apprised of my progress.

First 'Camping' Trip

Okay, I used quotations for camping because, well, we didn't stay overnight. We let them each choose an activity. Mario chose to go to the Castle Casino (Excalibur) and Luigi chose CEC (Chuck E. Cheese). Fun Fun Fun! We ate at Sweet Tomatoes between the two activities. All that the Saturday b/f their bday. Then the day OF, they each got to take cookies to their class, and I baked two different cakes as well.
They blew out candles to make it official and got to open their presents. Star Wars shirts all around, a couple of new games for their Leapsters, Star Wars underwear, new trainers, Dr. Seuss stuff, and their very own pencil sharpeners. Their birthday is the anniversary of the first moon walk in 1969. Our neighbor friend also gave them a space-themed bedroom set. Which included a couple of decor pillows with "One small step for man, One giant leap for mankind". How cool is that??
<img style="cursor: pointer; Mario and Luigi have finally visited their first amusement park--LEGOLAND. We went last week (June 2-5th). We stayed at a hotel in Carlsbad. The boys had a great time swimming in the cold pool and the warm pool. We also enjoyed eating at Ruby's on the Pier in Oceanside, and World Famous (daddy's favorite) in Pacific Beach. Mario and Luigi got to help fisherman on the pier in Oceanside--reel in in the fish and actually put them in the bucket. They played in the waves in Pacific Beach--cold, cold water didn't seem to bother them. Baby girl just hung out on the neatsheet in her long sleeves and pants. We were even able to go pick strawberries there in Carlsbad which the boys loved. Fun, fun, family vacation. Really our first one. It was made more enjoyable due to the fact that we have a 'new' van that we bought. They boys have dubbed it Rocket. It's a 1997 white mini van that is just perfect for our family.

Here are some of the pics and a little video of the boys singing their new favorite song.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It was actually a little humid here in Vegas this morning. go figure.
I would thank the following products for my success today--Brooks running shoes, body glide (no chaffed arms today!), Gatorade, Power Bar gel (strawberry banana), Cliff shot blocks (yuck!), Champion sportswear, and Injinji socks, oh and mother nature for the water afterwards. Thank you.

I'm IN!!

Found out Monday that I will be running the St. George Marathon on Saturday, October 3, 2009. YAHOO!! I really am excited. Just not looking forward to training all summer in the Vegas heat.

I've been running about 12 miles a week. This Saturday we're hitting a 7 miler. The last time I ran 7 miles was 3 days after I found out I was pregnant. I am about 30 pounds heavier now, but a stronger runner than ever. The past three weeks I have actually managed to get my butt off this chair in front of the computer and get out the door to run. My friend and I signed up for the St. George Marathon on October 3rd, but it's a lottery and we won't know if we got in until May 11th. In the meantime, we're on our training schedule and Gettin' 'er done!! It's been great. I'm not too excited about training in the heat this summer, but it's all good. I'll find a way. I'm gearing up for my 4 miler in the morning tomorrow. Yeah baby.
My baby girl turned 8 months old this week!! She is adorable as ever. She is actually sitting up now. She has her brothers in check, and adores their every silly dance and song. She sleeps 11 to 12 hours a night--thank you very much. She loves anything that crinkles and or shakes. She's a great eater now--squash, spinach, and sweet potatoes are her favs. Love that baby girl!
Mario and Luigi have been busy with soccer and swimming lessons. Soccer is a great league--3 on 3, they don't keep score, the boys are just there to feel the camaraderie of a team and to have fun. They're not the fastest, but Luigi keeps that goal covered and has been known to run past the ball to get to the goal. Mario is sure to add sound effects to his every move on the field--yelling all the way as he runs down the field, grunting, and 'high-ya' when kicking the ball. It's great. Swimming lessons are going well with Coach Tiffany (not to be confused with 'Queen Tiffany' from the movie Ant Bully--as Mario pointed out). It is really cute to see their little starfish floats. They are learning the front and back crawl. Luigi has a hard time with the front crawl b/c he tucks down and tries to swim to the bottom of the pool every time. His arms flailing and bum in the air. It makes me smile just writing about it.
Daddy is staying busy working his 4 jobs (if you count his church calling). He is busy as ever and a hard worker for our family. We are grateful. It really is great having him work from home.
Well, that's all folks, just the happenings of the season. We're saving our money (new concept that's ALL the rage these days) for a vacation to California--including the beach, Legoland (shhhh! that part is a secret) and most importantly to Mario and Luigi--a HOTEL! They're really excited to sleep in a hotel for some reason.

7 months!!

My baby girl is 7 months old!! She squeals, and loves to do razzies w/her mouth while eating--thus spraying mom with mush, or green beans. Her legs are strong, giggle infectious, and her sweet smell is intoxicating. I said yes, with daddy, b/c mom doesn't like to be up high. It got me thinking and I decided to help the boys create Life Lists. Here's what they asked me to write--with NO coaching.

Mario's Life List:

1. Go to the Stratosphere (play tower)
2. Go to the go-kart race track
3. Play tag w/baby sister
4. Float in a hot air balloon
5. Have a big playground in the backyard
6. Go the REAL desert w/sand and camels
7. Go fishing
8. Ride in a police car (let's hope its not in the back seat)
9. Go in a helicopter
10. make macaroni and cheese all by myself
11. Work on a REAL computer--not a play one (uh, they HAVE a real computer????)
12. Be a dad--push a baby in a stroller
13. Learn to ride a skateboard
14. Learn to do a cartwheel

Luigi's Life List:

1. Go to the go-kart race track
2. Go to the Stratosphere
3. Go to the REAL desert w/ sand and camels
4. Go in a hot air balloon
5. Go on a boat
6. Go on a motorcycle
7. Go in a helicopter
8. Make cookies all by myself
9. Own a tape measure and two screwdrivers

So there you have it. We're adding to it often. They mentioned something b/f we actually made the lists. I had talked to them about making the lists on Saturday, but we didn't actually make them until Monday or Tuesday. In church on Sunday, they both wanted to hold baby sister. I wouldn't let them. Mario asked if he could put that on his Life List. I said, "Put what on your Life List?" He said, "Hold baby sister at church". It made me smile, but when we actually made the lists, they didn't mention it, so I didn't say anything. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Christmas--went well. Santa came and everything. Uh, Santa even got busted by a 5 year old who came down the stairs while things were being assembled. (throat clearing--ah-hem) Mario & Luigi got just that, Mario & Luigi toys. As well as Sonic the hedgehog, Razor scooters, a soccer goal, new soccer ball, video games from Papa, webkins from Mimi, Guess Who? game, and an awesome game of slap jack. Good times.

I went back home for 3 weeks after Christmas--just baby girl and I. My mom broke her femur the weekend of Thanksgiving, had surgery, and is in a nursing facility for rehab. I went to help purge her clutter in her house in hopes of downsizing to a smaller unit. Well, the purchase of the new place fell through while I was there, but I continued on task and 'got 'er done'. Whew--10 carloads donated to charity and 2 small dumpsters full of garbage. I could've kept going, but hey, when you get rid of 3 crockpots, keeping 3 isn't so bad. I bet.

Hubby took Mario & Luigi to visit his family for the first week while baby girl and I were gone. They spent New Year's with cousins and friends. They boys had a great time playing in the snow and of course playing the wii with their cousins. I spent New Year's sitting at the kitchen table with my dad and his girlfriend waiting for the ball to drop in Time's Square. "Uh, wait was that it?" For some reason we ended up on the local channel who had sent a reporter to Time's Square and they MISSED it. The lame camera man didn't know where to focus. The crowd was counting down and the camera man is focused on the reporter. Finally at the count of 3-2-1 the reporter says "Tommy (pointing up and behind him) get the ball!!" Tommy pans up but doesn't zoom and you can't even see what it is or what it says. LAME!! Oh sure they got tons of footage afterward of people making out and kissing. Whatever.

So I'm home and unfortunately our SD drive is broken and the cord to the camera is no where to be found. SO....no photos to post at this time. I DO have to add that I came home from my trip to a clean house, an empty laundry hamper, flowers on the table, and a roast in the crockpot. WOW!! He done good. We had a productive day today, got Christmas decor all taken down and stored away, organized the garage, vacuumed out my car (YUCK!!), and went on a lovely walk with the kiddos. Right on track to reality folks. Here we go.
Oh and by the way....we cancelled our cleaning service (sigh). I can do it, I bet.

Who keeps turning off the lights?

So we have our tree up and the boys had a blast decorating it (and redecorating it daily). We came downstairs the other day and Luigi said, "Hey, who keeps turning off the lights? Everyday I come downstairs and I have to turn the Christmas tree lights back on."
We are all set for Christmas here. My shopping is done (over done) and our letters to Santa are written. Last year the boys asked Santa for "a baby and some presents". That's what they said in their letters and both times we went to see Santa last year. Santa brought them baby dolls b/c he couldn't bring them a real baby for Christmas. Little did we know our baby girl was on the way. Thank you Santa!!
This year, I'm trying to get the boys to ask Santa for a bigger house.

Housework is for the birds

I am done trying. I just can't do it. I just put my boys in the tub and realized that the bathroom I cleaned YESTERDAY is filthy!! I'm not just talking a couple of splatters on the mirror, FILTHY!! I also mopped the floor downstairs yesterday and within 3 hours it had shoe prints tracked all over. We live in Vegas and with the heat and the concrete jungle my boys have to play in, they are constantly filthy. Their shoes, hands, legs, faces, BLACK. I am not exaggerating. I have a few friends that can attest to this. I bathe them daily when they've played outside and there is literally a ring in the tub every time. Add all this to the fact that our house is like 2 square feet in livable space and I want to scream!!!
Thank goodness for Maid Brigade--a service we really can't afford, but I'll take it for as long as I can. I'll sell plasma if I have too. I did it in college--it ain't so bad.....I bet....

Pyro

So we're eating dinner tonight and Luigi says, "Mom when we're done can we play with matches?"

Really quick....

Hey, if you have a minute, check out our new family photos at: www.wifetodan.blogspot.com
Again, my friend Brit did an AMAZING job. We had a great time visiting while we worked on our projects. I am grateful for friends.
The boys went back to school this week after having the entire month of October off for track break. Yipee!! Mama's happy! They are happy to be back in school as well.
A few funny things they've said recently:
I was telling them about the election before Tuesday and that we were going to vote on a new President for the United States of America. Luigi asked "What's a president?" I said, "A leader, the leader of our country". Mario said, "Jesus?"
Then Tuesday night when I was putting them to bed I told them again about the election and that our next president would either be John McCain or Barack Obama. I asked them who they thought would win. Mario said he didn't know, and Luigi said, "Barack McCain". Too cute boys!!

I've started running again. I am SO excited. I went out Tuesday night with the intention of just walking. I got out there and my heart said "RUN!!!" so I did. I did 1.5 miles Tuesday night and 2.5 miles Thursday. I am amazed at my body--11 weeks after giving birth, I'm amazed at the muscle memory to be able to get back out there and run. I'm not full force, by any means, but I feel ALIVE!! It is so great. So now I'm back to thinking in Marathon mode. I have a free entry for the marathon that I missed this year w/the pregnancy. But I'm not sure if that's the marathon I want to do. I'm just going to see how long it takes me to get back to 'training mode" and then count out ahead and see which marathons would fit my schedule. So exciting!!
k--gotta get the boys out of the tub
peace out girl scout

Fun Fall Fotos....

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265751106458363106" style="width: 200px; There were lots of "plays" and "shows" to attend. It is so cute to see them playing so well and making memories. They love sleeping in the "rainbow bed" at grandma's house. (Comprised on the floor of many colorful quilts and blankets) It makes me remember trips to my grandma's house and playing with my cousins all day. FUN FUN FUN!!

The photo with the Chinese woman is very special. Her name is FayFay. She is from Beijing, China. She is one of the college roommates of our niece. With China's "one child" policy she has not had much exposure to babies. The youngest baby she had ever SEEN was about a year and a half our baby girl was the FIRST baby she had ever held in her entire life. She is 20 years old. It was beautiful to see her reaction and watch her face and body language as she held our sweet angel. What a moment!

More blessing photos

Here are some more photos from our trip for the baby blessing.

Gpa & baby girl

The great grandpas & daddy

Baby girl in her Biscotti dress. We have been busy kids. Or should I say, busy WITH kids. Going from 2 kids to 3 is seriously like a slap in the face. With twins, you strategize and plan ahead, everything goes pretty smoothly. Now with 3, I can't even THINK ahead. It's crazy. I feel like I'm just jumping from one thing to the next. We're having fun though and I'm trying to get us on a "schedule"--whatever that means.
Baby Girl turned 1 month old on 9/22. I took her for her check up and she weighed in at 10 lbs 3 ounces--21 inches long. Amazing!! She is growing strong.

The boys have been LOVING kindergarten and are now on track break through the month of October, so I've been trying to be a little more creative in getting them away from the computer. They will play and play and when Mario has to get up to go to the bathroom, he'll say, "Don't touch my people," or "Leave my trucks alone" then he'll say "And remember, don't LIE!" We've been going to the library for storytime and numerous parks for picnics.

Papa came to visit for a week and we had a great time. We went to the parks and the boys went with him on a walking adventure.

We went to visit Grandma and Grandpa this past weekend and bless baby girl. It was a wonderful day for her blessing with Great Grandpas, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Her daddy gave her a beautiful blessing.

The road trip there and back was long, but we made it. Mario and Luigi got really good at playing "I Spy". We only made a couple of stops each way, once for lunch, another potty break, and another time to have a lovely chat with Officer Bambi (yes, that was her real name). She just wanted to make sure we knew the speed limit on that stretch of the road. Sigh....she let us go with a warning. We were grateful.

I took all the kids to run errands with me yesterday. We went to Costco, I told the boys we could eat lunch at Costco and they could have pizza or a hot dog. Mario said, "I want a hot dog, but I don't want syrup or fruit on it." ??????? Their first day of school was last Monday, August 25th. (Three days after their baby sister was born). So I was still in the hospital, Daddy was starting his new job that day and Aunt D flew in to help and take boys to their first day of school. BIG week at our house, lots and lots going on. They have taken to school life rather well, they love it and I'm challenging them to learn the names of their new friends. They came home the other day full of school pride and chanting their school cheer. It was precious as they yelled as loud as they could. They are definitly growing up.

She's Here!!!!

Well, surprise surprise!! One day #2 said, "Mom, remember, call me Mario today" I said, "Okay, I'll call you Mario and you can call me Princess" They both thought that was hilarious. But they called me that for the day. It was cute.

They are both really excited to start kindergarten in 9 days time. Last night Luigi said, "Mom, I need a pencil, do we have a pencil."

"Yes, what do you need a pencil for?"

"For school.--I need an apple too, do we have any apples?"

"Yes, what do you need an apple for?"

"For school. Oh, and I'm also going to need some paper. Do we have paper?"

"Yes"

"Great".

Sweet boys. I told them I'm going to be sad when they go to school b/c my babies are starting school. Mario said, "It's okay mom, because we're going to have another baby" and he patted my tummy.

Well, I guess it's about time for an update. We don't have too much longer to wait for this little girl. I've been busy busy busy. My list of things to do is actually getting shorter, so that's good.
Physically, I'm struggling. I feel huge and I'm winded doing ANYTHING. I'm just slowing down. My ankles haven't made a full appearance in about 2 weeks. I'm just trying to take it easy, but still be productive and still take care of my babies. I'm realizing there are a lot of changes happening at the same time. My "babies" are starting school, and I'm HAVING a baby. It's still hard for me to comprehend that I'm actually pregnant (as silly as that sounds). I always wanted, but never imagined this happening. Our little family of four is expanding to five--all of these things make me sentimental and weepy. I'm also nervous about the c-section (major surgery), and staying overnight in a hospital. Aside from a few visits for stitches/broken limbs over the years, I haven't stayed overnight in the hospital since I was 3 and had my tonsils out--crazy! So, I've been trying to make arrangements for the boys while I'm in the hospital. My sister-in-law and my friend from Chicago are coming in after I come home from the hospital to help us along. Things should be okay, but I'm just nervous about the unknown.
The boys are super excited about the countdown to their first day of kindergarten. They've made a paper chain and get excited to take a ring off every day. I've gotten all of their school supplies, school clothes, and shoes. So we're ready physically, but I'm gonna cry. I guess you can't protect them from everything forever. We're going to get our school haircuts today.
toodles....

27 days and counting...

Well, my c-section is scheduled for Aug 28th. That's 27 days from today. I still have a lot to do, but I'm trying to cross something off my list everyday. It seems so unreal that this little girl will be here so soon. She is so precious to me. I will miss her flips and kicks in my tummy. I cherish that connection with her. Here's a pic from yesterday at 34 weeks officially. Hubby laughs b/c evertime it's time to take a picture I stand in front of a door in our house. Our house is so dang small there's not really anywhere to go away from the clutter except to close a door and stand in front of it. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!!

The boys turned 5 years old last week and we had a little shindig at home on their bday where they opened presents from Mimi, Papa, and us--MarioKart for the Wii. At one point on their bday at home I was lecturing #1 about "You know you are 5 years old now and you need to do better, etc." He said "I'm not 5 years old!!" I said, "Um, yes you are, today is your birthday." He said, "But I haven't blown out the candles yet!"

Then the next day we had (I'm ashamed to say) their very FIRST birthday party!! They had a blast. We had it at the bowling alley and it was great. They take care of EVERYTHING except the cake. The boys each got to take home a large bowling pin with balloons that all of their friends got to sign. Um, yeah, and I think they're real bowling pins b/c they're heavy and could knock a hole in the wall or crack our tile floor. They had a total of 9 friends come from preschool, play groups, and church. They got lots of games like Jenga, Connect 4, Flippin' Frogs, and Scrabble Jr. They also got Legos, and some cool Batman and Superman cars. Fun, fun, fun!! At one point while opening presents #1 said, "I need more presents please! More presents please." Well, at least he said please....

Our little angel

I went in for another ultrasound last Thursday. We saw her face for the first time (every other time she just looked skeletal). So precious!! At one point her little lips parted and then did this little sucking thing. It was unbelievable to see all of this on the ultrasound. She's growing strong--about 4.5 pounds the technician said. I still have the placenta previa, so I'll be having the C-section for sure. I meet with my doctor next week to discuss this ultrasound and possibly set a date for everything. We'll see.

First Trip to Dentist

The boys had their first trip to the dentist last week. I'll be 32 weeks, and we'll know for sure what we're up against. We'll see if the placenta has finally moved and whether or not I'll be having a C-section. Little nervous about all of that, but I'm grateful she's healthy. Here is a more recent photo of my BELLY two weeks ago at 30 weeks. A girl at work gave me a HUGE bag and box full of baby girl clothes. Her daughter was born in September, so they're right on season with our little one. I spent last weekend washing baby clothes, blankets, sheets, etc. The closet is full and I haven't even loaded in all the things I got from my baby shower! People have been so generous. I am amazed! We'll go to our final birthing class on Saturday morning, I have Breastfeeding 101 tomorrow night. It's been 5 years since we've been responsible for an infant. It will be good to have a refresher course on baby care.

Keeping cool...

We went swimming at the Flamingo Pool today. It's been so long since my last post. The pregnancy is progressing wonderfully, and we are thrilled to be preparing for a LITTLE GIRL. We finally told the boys on Mother's Day, May 11th. They were really excited. We like to ask them what her name will be. So far 2 is set on either Mario or Towel. His brother likes the name Butterfly. Daddy keeps calling her Bob. So far lots of nicknames for baby.

We got the room painted pink and brown, got the crib set up, and we're in the process of getting the house ready for her. I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow. I've been keeping a pregnancy journal and taking pictures of my changing tummy. I'll most likely be having a c-section b/c of the placenta previa, but we'll know for sure next week. My friends threw a wonderful baby shower back in June. I am seriously blessed to have so many friends. They were so generous and seriously, we are set and ready for this baby girl.

We're just trying to stay cool. We've been swimming lots and went to visit our friends, family, and cousins last week for the 4th of July. The boys LOVE their cousins and friends.

They are still learning to swim, so we keep the life jackets and swimming rings close. Dad has even taken a couple of opportunities to swim this summer. We're having fun.

Another 3 miles

Well, I didn't end up doing 4 miles yesterday. But I did 3 miles today and it was weird. I only had to pee once, at 2.5 miles. So that wasn't too bad, but I made sure to go b/f leaving and then about 20 strides in, I had to go. So I ran the 2.5 until I gave into the urge. But mentally, running is different for me now. I don't know what it is. I have a lot of dread b/f I go. A lot of fear and then even whilst I'm running, I'm not easily able to clear my head, but instead feel scatter-brained trying to scope out trees, bushes, or whatever that would make a secluded spot to pee. That's all I can think about most of my run. I'm scared of HAVING to pee, w/no place to go. Whereas b/f when I would run, I could think about all kinds of things and it was sort of a meditation for me. It was energizing and a time to focus on me, on my life. I don't know. I'm really frustrated, this is a new issue and I hope that the fear will subside and I'll be able to get back to the spiritual running that I so enjoy. I have my first dr. appt. tomorrow. I'm really anxious to see the heartbeat. I'm really anxious to validate these changes in my body and my life.

National Lampoon's 10 miler

So I ran my first 10 miler on Friday. It was a mess!! I just felt all over the place. My energy levels were off, I didn't much sleep the night b/f and honestly, I don't think I've been eating the best for the mileage I'm trying to maintain. Second, I had to pee--FIVE TIMES!!! A gas station, a grocery store, starbucks (twice!!), it was a mess. I just felt like I had to keep being creative to find another place to pit stop. When I clocked out my routes months ago, I wasn't pregnant, at least didn't know I was, and wasn't anticipating having to make so many stops. I feel lucky that it was down somewhat of a busy road, so I had the option to go pee, but it was ridiculous. Even if I was at a gym trying to run this mileage, I'd have to keep hoping off the treadmill every 2 miles to go pee. It seriously felt like National Lampoon's 10 miler. Finding a potty, walking through gawking crowds of people in spandex and a fleece headband, taking off my fuel belt, pulling the spandex back up over my sweaty legs, it was just crazy. I was frustrated and spent. Even after a pack of sport beans, gatorade, and 1 GU packet, my thighs and knees were protesting. I ended up walking the last mile. I haven't had much pain w/any run b/f. Not sure if the hormones, or the poor nutrition attributed to this upset. I cried when I got home. Finished in 2 hrs, 8 minutes (excluding the 5 potty breaks). I stayed in bed the rest of the day until I had to go to work. That was a good decision. I'm supposed to run 4 miles today, but it's cold and rainy and I'm still pissed at my bladder (no pun intended). Maybe I'll go later this afternoon.

Fatigue

I just feel like I could sleep and sleep and sleep.
I did 5 miles Tuesday, 3 miles yesterday and I'm supposed to do 10 today. A little mental block w/that. I'm sure I'll be fine.
My body just feels tired. I worked 6 hours last night and I just feel like I can't get enough sleep these past few days. My boobs are SO sore. A little nausea last night and today which is very managable if I keep eating little snacks.
I have my first doctor's appointment next Tuesday. I'm anxious to get a blood test and see where my HCG levels are. For some reason I feel the need to validate this pregnancy and know that it's for real. I've never been pregnant. All of those infertility treatments, all those injections, and cycles. This is new and somehow, I guess I don't really believe it. Or maybe I'm afraid to believe it. I don't think I'm mourning my marathon anymore. I know I'll do it someday. It's still in me, it won't be taken away. I'll most likely do the half so I can still experience that day.

3 miles today. My longest mileage to date. That makes a total of 19 miles this week. It felt amazing. I don't run w/music or an ipod. I just think and meditate while running. It really helps to clear my head and give me quiet time for ME. I do occasionally say montras to myself, outloud while running. Yesterday's montra was "I am strong, I am beautiful, I am happy." I've been doing some more research online and still not sure what I'm going to do about my marathon in April. I'll be about 18-19 weeks pregnant. sigh....Maybe I could just do the half. I don't know. I think I'm still going to keep uping the mileage for awhile. At some point I'll need to go to the doctor and get this whole prenatal thing started. At any rate. I'm a little sore today. Some cramps, but very little nausea. I worked 6+ hours last night on my feet waiting tables. It was a lot of work--but I walked w/$110. Today will be a rest day and I'll start w/3 miles again tomorrow. I think I need to time it so my long run is on a day that I have off from work. I was SO tired last night and even this morning I just wanted to sleep and sleep, but the alas, the boys were up at 6:20 a.m.
toodles.

Is it possible?

I'm training for a marathon in April. I'm 5 weeks into my formal training program and LOVING it. I ran into a hiccup last week though. After 12 years of marriage I am pregnant for the first time. SURPRISE, SURPRISE!! We adopted our babies I have been fulfilled as a mother for the past 4.5 years. Pregnancy was once a hope and wish, but has been furthest from my mind in recent years. I cannot even explain the shock in finding out I'm pg. I have never been pregnant. We did months and months of fertility and an IVF cycle in 2000. None of which were ever successful, yet, no explination had been given for our infertility. This past fall I started my "pre-training" in anticipation of accomplishing my marathon that had been on my "list" for about 3 years. I couldn't even run 5 minutes when I started. But I kept working my way up and by the week of Christmas I was ready to start my formal training program for my marathon in April. Little did I know, I was already a few days pregnant. I missed my period early this month and thought, "well, I'm running more than ever b/f in my life, surely it's that." But last week after a couple bouts of nausea, I got a pg test and it was positive. So now I'm trying to figure out how far I'm going to take this training. Can I run my marathon at 4 months pg? I don't know. Should I add mileage? I don't know. I'm going to keep running and training for now. It's still early, and I'm not sure how all of this is going to pan out.
